Our guide was phenomenal, sharing plenty of educational commentary about the region and its wine, as well as plenty of laughs. We first stopped at the Estate Argyros where we tried 4 types of wine before visiting Artemis Karamolegos Winery, which has been around for around 70 years.
While learning about and tasting their fine selection of wine along with some tasty snacks, we appreciated the incredible vistas all around us. As if the evening couldn’t get any better, we were then taken to the stunning village of Oia where we soaked up the jaw-dropping sunset! I can’t recommend this tour enough to anyone – newbies or seasoned Santorini visitors.

What to Expect on the Tour
If you’ve ever been to Santorini before, you’ll know what a struggle it can be to navigate it by car! It’s winding, narrow roads can be challenging, and driving on your own is not something I recommend for any visitor.
The Wine Tour in Santorini with Private Guide, Wine Museum and Tasting experience removes that worry from the equation, transporting you seamlessly with convenient door-to-door service.
Learn about Santorini’s unique volcanic solid which helps produce wine unlike any found anywhere else. Expect to try 3 tastings of 4 distinct wines, including a visit to the fascinating underground wine museum Koutsogiannopoulos!
The wineries were clearly chosen by a professional who knows what they’re doing, as they all offered something special and different from the rest. With local cheeses and snacks there as well, it’s a complete experience perfect for going on before dinner!
What Makes This Tour Great
It’s no secret that Santorini is incredible, but I think it was this tour that made me realize just how much. After being picked up from our hotel, our guide chatted with us and brought us over to the Wine Museum Koutsogiannopoulos which is actually in a cave, literally displaying the kind of lives vine growers had over hundreds of years, all the way to the 1600s.
Learning about the struggles behind this local industry and what it’s required to be successful somehow only made our wine taste even better. After 4 tastings of wine underground, we went to the Estate Argyros which is a more “polished” experience, where we went on a fabulous tour of their vineyards before trying 4 of their vintages along with tasty cheeses and breadsticks.
Venetsanos Winery was next, perched on a cliffside overlooking the Santorini caldera, and seeing this breathtaking view with delicious food and wine felt like something out of a fairytale.

Learn all about the different winemaking techniques from various winery visits and experience guided tastings with sommeliers (and in some cases, winemakers, themselves)!
What Makes This Tour Great
If you really want to get to know Santorini’s wine scene (and enjoy fantastic views while doing it), this tour is a fantastic choice. You’ll get to see quite possibly the most versatile selection of wineries and tour some of the more exclusive, BTS areas most visitors don’t get to see.
I mean, you’re going to be seeing an underground winery in a CAVE, the cutting-edge Estate Argyros, and one that melds the traditional with the new: Venetsanos. Our guide was a lovely host, sharing plenty of educational info as well as adventurous stories and anecdotes, further enriching our time together.

- Tour Length: 4 hours
- Start Time(s): Between 8:00 AM & 7:00 PM

What to Expect on the Tour
The Santorini Private Wine Tour is an intimate, personalized experience ideal for those who’d like to go about exploring the island’s wine at their own pace with expert guidance and transport.
While there’s nothing wrong with tours that aren’t private, I believe that in a place like Santorini, with tight roads and smaller spaces in general, there’s something to be said for more exclusive excursions. You’ll experience some of their most respected boutique wineries that wouldn’t be possible with a larger group, for example.
Expect a guide who’s a true connoisseur of the local wine culture, transporting you door-to-door to hand-selected wineries for tours and tastings. See the Santorini Wine Museum, the Art Space Gallery – Winery – Museum for their unique BIO wines, and then the majestic Venetsanos Winery with the best vistas around.
What Makes This Tour Great
As this is a private tour, you’ll enjoy the undivided attention from your friendly expert wine guide who takes you to 3 spectacular wineries. With the flexibility to linger a bit longer, you’ll be able to ask questions and learn about the subtle differences in local varietals, making it a perfect intro for wine enthusiasts and newbies.
At the Santorini Wine Museum, you’ll see how they make their Crazy Donkey beer, taking you all the way from growing the grapes to properly tasting a glass! I thought the Art Space Gallery/Winery/Museum was interesting and it was the only wine tour in Santorini that stopped here, where we tried 3 traditional wines.
It feels like you’re going back in time here, where they blend wine, caves, and art dating back to the 1800s. The stop at Venetsanos Winery was the cherry on top, learning even more about their winemaking methods while sampling their incredible wine and enjoying cliffside views of the volcano!

5. Santorini Wine Tour with Sunset in Oia
What You Should Know About This Tour:
- Where You Will Meet: Hotel pickup and drop-off included
- Tour Length: 6 hours
- Start Time(s): 3:00 PM
- What’s Included: Local guide, Wine tasting, Sunset time at a bar with view and wine, Alcoholic Beverages
What to Expect on the Tour
The Santorini Wine Tour with Sunset in Oia is unlike the rest in that you’ll visit different bars and wineries, showing you some slightly “less conventional” places than what many standard tours offer. This is a wonderful intro to the Santorini wine scene, which is great for discovering which ones are your favorites so you can go back and explore them further later on in your trip.
With an amazing tour guide who explains everything along the way, you’re going to learn a ton about the different varietals, flavor profiles, and the history behind each location.
The first stop was Hatzidakis Winery in the famous Pyrgos Kallistis village sitting 330 meters above sea level, with a very interesting design and perhaps even more impressive view. Then, we learned all about winemaking at the wine museum, before stopping at Oia’s Sun Spirit Bar for quite possibly the best sunset views on the entire island.
What Makes This Tour Great
This is the longest tour on this guide, but in my opinion, it’s also the most comprehensive. I’d recommend this tour to anyone who even slightly enjoys wine, which will surely offer a new perspective on the beverage.
Our tour guide was personable, welcoming, and clearly had ample experience, moving everything along smoothly while regaling us with intriguing anecdotes and historical accounts as we traveled.
I’d recommend the wine museum to literally anyone as it’s so fascinating and educational, though in this tour setting you do get more “VIP” access to certain features. With a small group tour setting, you really do feel more like a local experiencing everything rather than a tourist.
You get to try and learn about a TON of delicious wines, and your guide will ensure you have the perfect viewing spot to watch the sunset in Oia to wrap up a perfect day.
